The Difference Engine - William Gibson
was very disappointed, especially as this is supposed to be one of the pioneer books to modern steampunk and i am just getting into steampunk and was looking forward to fact i couldn't even finish the book it was so slow, monotonous and boring. the plot developed at an incredibly slow rate and didn't hold my interest in the slightest. it was very male oriented which i didn't like, there were hardly any women in it and if there were any they were depicted as a silly tart or a helpless crazy person with hardly no presence in the story at all

also the writing was a pain to get through, i found myself reading whole pages without taking anything in and then having to read over and over...i regret getting this book very much
